Tour poster changes to get Draft 3

Today we made some changes to the tour poster, these include minor picture and text tweaks. We completed this on request of feedback we received. This first poster was the original tour poster I created, we were quickly told to change it due to its over-simple design. It then progressed to the second which was more structured. I took the design from an ASAP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa tour poster I had seen. This design showed promise. The final design compiled images from the digipack allowing branding to shine through. The pictures are easily recognisable and take influence from other beautiful tour posters.

Discount Coupon on Website

Here is how I constructed the discount code to work on the website. This would give customers a 15% discount to celebrate the recently announced new album from C.DOT, hence the code "YSD15" relating to Yellow Shop Dreams.

Explaining the Use of Bombay Sapphire

Bombay Sapphire
As receiving feedback from people watching our first draft of our video we have had many comments about C.DOT drinking Bombay Sapphire not understanding the drink. This must be due to the age gap of people viewing the video. Here is an example showing Wiz Khalifa and others drinking Bombay Sapphire who is a very popular artist in our genre, this is a very popular drink therefore we will be keeping it in the video defending the different shots of C.DOT drinking.

Magazine Article research

Below is a selection of magazine articles at which have been taken from XXL. XXL is an American Hip hop magazine although it has many articles on all types of hip hop people from Jay Z to Asher Roth to Eminem. XXL maintains a popular website, which provides daily hip hop news, original content and content from the magazine. This is likely going to be the type of magazine article which we will generate ideas from. This is because it is current but also fits with our genre. I picked out several of my favourite articles and will use various methods of these to generate our own article for C.DOT. The research is shown below:

From this magazine article the first thing which stood out to me was the name of the artist in different fonts and sizes at which surrounded a photo of the Temi himself. This is something I feel would look very good on our magazine as C.DOT isn't a long name and I think that this is a good method for generating publicity as people are then likely to remember C.DOT name as he is an up coming artist. This article is two pages at which seems to occur a lot in XXL magazines and therefore we are likely to replicate this. I like the right hand corner exclusive however we are more likely to not have the word separated. Like this magazine article there will be some stand out sentences from Connor himself, this is seen in a lot of articles.  

From this magazine article you can see that this is also a two page article with a whole page taken up by the artist himself. This is a method at which promotes the artist. I liked the quote "life of a shooting star" this appealed to me as I was thinking we could change this to "Life of a Rising Star" to promote C.DOT as a new artist. However this article is fairly short at which we want to give our audience as much information as we can about C.DOT.

This article is a two page article at which is a similar theme throughout XXL magazines. This is similar to the one above at which is mainly promoting the artist. As he is such a well known artist his initials already tell the audience who he is whereas C.DOT is a rising rapper. I like the layout however I think that the article is too short which doesn't provide enough information about C.DOT.

This magazine article is also a double page spread. In this article the photo of Nas takes up 1 and a half of the page. This is the first article at which the photo has a background which is in the gym. The text has a specific font throughout the article at which also has a stand out line which is shown in the larger font. At the start of the column similar to others there is a large character.

This article is also a double page spread at which also has the artist on a full side of the page. The column itself is divided by the artist on a motorbike at which shows he is the centre of attention.

Tour Poster Second draft

After receiving feedback from our teachers they did not like our first draft. They did not like the three Connors and said that C.DOT looked like the KKK at which is an image we do not want to portray. However they liked the top of the tour poster however wanted more variety in the color of the photos and the back ground. We therefore went back to the tour poster and we produced our second draft which can be seen below:

This is C.DOT's 2 magazine covers for his article inside the XXL magazine. As you can see shot of C.DOT is the same but the magazine covers differ in Colour and layout. One of these covers will be included in our final magazine article.

Student Music Video Marking

Alex Echo Group (34)
The concept of Alex Echo's group is very good. The go pro used throughout to many different people in different locations. I very much like the way they have used the bag cut away to change location and person. The locations they have used are very impressive especially Barcelona, therefore I believe the narrative side of the video is very impressive. However the performance side of the video could do with some practice but the overall video is good.

Alleyways (38)
This video was graded the highest in the year and also did very at the BFI media show case. I believe the music video that they have created is very close to real media products in how it is filmed and how they perform as a group. Their lip syncing especially the main singer was very good and she is a very natural performer

Hybrid Beauty (34)

This video was more of a narrative based video including some very good shots however I believe there is no actual slight story to the video and there are no landmarks established throughout. I believe they should also just stick to the one artist that is performing. There are good shots throughout also using the go pro underwater which is very effective. There is also no title identifying the artist or song which is important for promotional was for the media product. Although this is a group performance the song mostly comes across as a solo artist approach. Lacking artist identity.

Cosmo (39)

This is a very unique video which fits in very well with the genre he has chosen. He uses very good props wen filming and his performance is very good and unique matched to his genre. I also very much like how the whole video that is focused mainly around Cosmo not including any one else apart from a few shots. This was my favorite music video which featured.

Encoded (33)
The setting of the music video was very impressive such as the Encoded sign and the confetti which was used at the end this was very impressive. The lip syncing was also good in places however I did find the stage was used to much and shouldn't of come in till towards the end of the video. Also found parts of the shots were just used to fill gaps in the video and had no meaning behind them

Group 6 (36)
Very good shots throughout also including many different variety and using props very well especially lighting which is used very well throughout whilst using the white screen and shadow. Shot locations could be thought about more do not like the use of the park, however good performance in most shots. Lacking artist identity.

Group 7 (35)
The performance throughout is mixed but the shot locations and ideas that have been filmed are very impressive, the graffiti throughout the video and the effects used on the wall have been executed very well and improves the video, the time lapse is also a very good effect.

Group 8 (33)

Good variety of shots and how the artist is positioned in the shot throughout also with consistent performing. Dancing shots are good but very repetitive the video is just lacking something which would give it more marks. Lacking artist identity.

Very much enjoyed this video good song choice to do the music video for, just lacking variety of shots comes across it was all filmed in one day and lighting could be improved or possibly just needs colour correcting. However performance was good which shows enthusiasm. Lacking artist identity.

Below is front page magazine article research, at which I have researched XXL magazines, and 5 rap artists. There is detailed information below about a variety of different front pages, and how we are going to use some of the ideas in creating our own front page magazine article.

Change To Colour Effect

I found an effect which would gradually allow me to change the colour of the video. This means a colour would morph from one colour to another, this can be seen in the picture below. I decided to change the yellow graffiti to red over a 3 second period. This is very effective and keeps the audience concentrated as it is not an everyday occurrence. I selected the colour dropper tool to select the original colour, and transformed it to a colour palette chosen red.

Implementing the 'Where R U Now' Effect

Today I synced the Photoshop drawing effect to the video, this was difficult as I had to cut drawing that took me a long time, despite this I cut the video to the beat and it worked well, this can be seen below.

Replication/Rotation Effect

I was looking for effects for the music video and I came across replication effect. Instead of making the videos separate when they are replicated, it sews them together meaning I can zoom and rotate the video as a whole, rather than the reduplicated videos individually. This will be a running theme throughout the video.
